Migrating from the Philippines to America in the year 2000 provided me with more learnings than I could have ever imagined at such a young age. As you would believe, there were certainly several aspects of the American culture that I needed to better understand. I wanted to understand. What was something that my family instilled to immerse us into the culture? Sports.

Sports has a truly remarkable way to bring people and communities together. It can be diverse. It can be equitable. It can be the vehicle that teaches our youth essentials values like teamwork, discipline, resiliency, respect, compassion, and character. With a wealth of benefits, we must do everything in our power to break the barriers, biases, and inequitable opportunities youth have to access the transformative power of sports.
